The annual Puppy Bowl, sponsored by Animal Planet, returns for its 15th year on Sunday at 3 p.m., and this year will feature two area pups.

Ace and Scooter are the two pups representing the Virginia Beach SPCA in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XV.

This is the second year the VBSPCA has pups in the Puppy Bowl, said Mike Lawson, communications and marketing manager of the VBSPCA.

They submitted five pups for consideration and Ace and Scooter were selected, he said.

The two will participate as part of Team Fluff as they compete to win the chewy.com “Lombarky Trophy.”

About the pups

Ace came to VBSPCA with his mom, Lady, and his siblings when they were only 4 days old.

Ace and his family had been living in a yard in North Carolina when owners alerted a local partner the dogs were there if they wanted them, according to the VBSPCA.

The puppies were discovered crying under a pile of trash and they were quickly rescued and sent to the VBSPCA.

They were then sent to foster care after getting checked out by the vet and Ace has now found a family of his own where he continues to be the center of attention.

Scooter and his four siblings were born in a small town in Georgia, in a household that had already reached its capacity for people and animals.

His owner reached out and with the help of the VBSPCA Scooter and his family was rescued and brought to Virginia Beach by a pilot, who worked for the nonprofit Pilots for Paws, that was able to help out on his own time.

Scooter and his family are now living happily with their new families.

The VBSPCA does not pay to be a part of the Puppy Bowl, Lawson said.

According to Animal Planet’s website, 100 percent of the puppies and kittens that have participated in the Puppy Bowl have been adopted to loving families.
