Pilot uninjured in Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport ‘minor incident’

A Yorktown area pilot walked away uninjured from an incident Saturday.

According to the James City County Fire Department, emergency crews responded to a report of an airplane crash at the Williamsburg-Jamestown Airport at around 5:30 p.m.

Authorities said the pilot — identified by the Virginia State Police as Benjamin Fye — was landing his 1964 Cherokee PA 128-40 aircraft when the approach to the runway was too high and overran the runway, ending up on the bank of College Creek.

The crash is under investigation by the Virginia State Police and FAA. The State Police classified it as a “minor incident.”
