Better cover those plants Saturday

VIRGINIA BEACH — The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued an urgent weather message, saying a freeze warning will be in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

The areas affected cover the eastern Virginia area and residents can expect temperatures from the mid 20s to lower 30s.

“That’ll be the first time for the eastern parts of Virginia,” said Alec Butner, meteorologist for the NWS Wakefield office which produces forecasts for southeast Virginia.

Crops and other sensitive vegetation may be killed by the freezing temperatures but Butner said he doesn’t anticipate any other hazards.
