VIRGINIA BEACH — The walls of a state penitentiary will be “home” to a 52-year-old local man, for a very long time.
John James Aggar was sentenced Tuesday to 80 years in prison, with 35 years suspended, leaving 45 years to serve for two counts of forcible sodomy – victim under age 13, object sexual penetration – victim under age 13, and two counts of custodial indecent liberties.
Aggar pleaded guilty to one count of custodial indecent liberties and was found guilty following a trial before Circuit Court Judge H. Thomas Padrick on the remaining charges, according to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
The cases
On Aug. 4, 2016, Aggar inappropriately touched a minor known to him while the minor slept. The victim woke up a family member and reported the incident.
On Sept. 3, 2016, another victim who was also known to Aggar, told police that Aggar had sexually abused her when she was a minor.
The abuse happened in the home of a family member around 2008-2009.
Prosecutors said Aggar was “intoxicated and molested the victim as the victim slept in a living room chair.”
The victim reported the abuse to a family member the next day. During the investigation, the victim revealed the abuse had been going on for a while.
Aggar has prior convictions for rape, crimes against nature, DUI, three counts of possession of marijuana, assault and battery of a family member, three counts of concealment, two counts of public intoxication and several traffic offenses, according to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
