VIRGINIA BEACH — Police here say they are seeing an increase in “larcenies from UN-locked vehicles.”
So, the Virginia Beach Police Department is joining other law enforcement agencies in introducing the #9PMRoutine.
The #9PMRoutine is a social media campaign to raise awareness and promote safer habits among residents to prevent thefts from vehicles, as well as homes, according to a police news release.
The hope, police said, is that this “will encourage residents to become more vigilant.”
The #9PMRountine reminder will be posted on Twitter @VBPD every night.
Here’s how it works:
Set an alarm on your smartphone, watch or other device to remind yourself to do the following:
- Remove valuables (electronic devices, wallets, etc.) from your vehicle.
- Ensure that vehicle doors and trunks are locked.
- Check that all home exterior doors – and garage doors – are locked.
- Turn on exterior lights.
