VIRGINIA BEACH — Ice cream and history do not usually go together, but Saturday here, they do.
In celebration of National Ice Cream Month, the City of Virginia Beach is hosting an ice cream festival at the Francis Land House.
The festival will include ice cream-themed games, run ice cream relays, and the chance to try out an old-fashioned hand-cranked ice cream machine.
General admission to the festival is free.
A new component of the festival this year is called “Founding Flavors.” The historic houses will provide “samples of our founding fathers’ and mothers’ favorite ice cream flavors from yester-year,” according to the historic houses’ Facebook page.

Although admission to the festival is free, tickets are $5 to take part in the “Founding Flavors” tasting. Historic ice cream flavors “with origins from the herb garden to the ocean” will be available, according to the Facebook page.
Ice cream vendors will also be on-site with sweet treats available for purchase, and Olaf from Frozen will be available for pictures.
