VIRGINIA BEACH — The city will adjust its schedule for the July 4 holiday, closing some facilities on Independence Day and delaying others, according to a news release from the city’s communications office.
Trash, recycling, yard waste and bulky item services will operate on a one-day delay, with Friday customers receiving service on Saturday. For example, Wednesday routes will be collected on Thursday. Thursday routes on Friday, and Friday routes on Saturday (July 7).
Curbside collection will remain unchanged for residents receiving Tuesday service.
The following Virginia Beach facilities will be closed Wednesday, July 4 in observance of Independence Day:
- All Virginia Beach government administrative offices.
- All Virginia Beach city public schools and administrative offices
- The Francis Land House, Lynnhaven House, Thoroughgood House, and the Princess Anne County Training School-Union Kempsville High School Museum.
- Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.
- The Virginia Beach Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts and Clerk’s Offices.
- The Tidewater Community College-City of Virginia Beach Joint-Use Library.
- Virginia Beach City Landfill and Resource Recovery Center.
- Virginia Beach community recreation centers.
- Virginia Beach Public Health Department.
- Virginia Beach Public Libraries.

The city said the following facilities will be open to the public on July 4 during the following hours:
- All Virginia Beach city parks and park facilities — 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Mount Trashmore Park will be open 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the fireworks starting at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting.
- The Sandler Center for the Performing Arts administrative office and box office — 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.
- Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center — 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Virginia Beach Farmers Market — 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Visitor Information Center at the Chesapeake Bay Center at First Landing – 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Visitor Information Center at Parks Avenue — 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Visitor Information Center Kiosks at 17th and 24th streets — 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
