Police find body of missing swimmer

VIRGINIA BEACH — Police said the body of a swimmer reported missing in Rudee Inlet was recovered Wednesday morning.

Information on the identity and gender of the swimmer was not made immediately available. Authorities said they have yet to notify the family.

Police said dispatchers received a call about a “possible drowning” around 12:23 a.m. in the 300 block of Winston Salem Avenue.

“It was reported that three adults were swimming in the inlet and that only two had exited the water.,” police wrote in a news release.

Members of the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Marine Patrol Dive Team, Virginia Beach Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services and the Coast Guard immediately searched for the person, and confirmed pulling a body out of the water around 5 a.m.
