The next stage of the I-64 Widening Project begins this summer, and Greater Williamsburg drivers will get their chance to learn more about the plan before construction begins.
Contractor Shirley Contracting Co. is hosting a public information meeting for Segment III of the project June 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruton High School, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation press release.
Guests can attend and learn more about expected traffic impacts, noise analysis, stormwater management and current project information.
VDOT representatives and members of the Shirley design-build team will be present to answers questions from the public.
Segment III of the I-64 Widening Project will add one eastbound lane and one westbound lane, beginning one mile west of Humelsine Parkway/Marquis Center Parkway (Exit 242) to one mile west the Route 199 Lightfoot Road exit (Exit 234).
The new travel lane will mostly be completed on the existing median and will increase capacity for the 8.2 mile stretch of interstate.
Once completed, the project will connect with Segment II, which runs from Exit 242 to east of Exit 247. Work on Segment II is ongoing.
Construction is scheduled to begin mid-summer with shoulder strengthening operations.
Survey work, bridge scans and soil boring is already underway.
