VIRGINIA BEACH — Drive back to the end of Moore’s Lane here and you’ll be forgiven if you mistakenly think you’ve somehow arrived in New England at a lakeside country home.
Located at 1608 Moore’s Lane along the quiet shore of Lake Charles is a home and a property that does indeed have the look and feel that could be more New England than Coastal Virginia.
“This property feels like a secluded New England country getaway, yet somehow it’s in the south and close to urban conveniences,” said Karlene Cupp, personal marketing assistant for Katie Zarpas at Long and Foster Real Estate, pointing out that the home is just a short drive from Town Center.
“The lake offers this spectacular serenity. You can sit under the gazebo overlooking the lake and sip your morning coffee, or hop on board a paddle boat and spend a lazy summer afternoon, or sit on the edge of the dock and fish. It really does feel like a country escape,” she said.
In addition to the peaceful lakeside setting and views, another unique feature of the home is its own pizza gazebo.
“We were told that a previous homeowner also owned the Cobalt Grille, and that he is responsible for installing the pizza gazebo,” Cupp said.
The outdoor pizza oven is wood-fired and can reach temperatures of more than 500 degrees. Pizza cooked there cooks faster and also has a smoky finish. But of course cooking a pizza in a wood-fired oven requires some time, as it can take 2-3 hours for the oven to reach the temperatures needed.
“Starting the pizza oven, making the pizzas, and eating the pizzas is a fun group activity, and really lends itself to community fun,” Cupp said.
Another interesting feature of the home is a large compass that has been painted onto the back deck.
Cupp said the current homeowner is retired from the Navy, and that he also made and installed a large ladder that slides back and forth in the library, allowing access to books on the high shelves.
The home is served by Thoroughgood Elementary, Independence Middle, and Princess Anne High School.
Information about the home can be found at the Katie Zarpas Group website.
