VIRGINIA BEACH — Fairlead Integrated, a Portsmouth-based supplier of electrical and mechanical products, broke ground on a new 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Virginia Beach Monday.
The move to Virginia Beach will close an existing smaller facility in Chesapeake.
Fairlead Integrated says the new location on London Bridge Road will allow the company to prepare for increasing demand from military customers. The company’s products are a part of systems in U.S. Navy aircraft carriers, Virginia-class submarines, and the littoral combat ship, among others.
The new facility will also have a test lab that is double the size of their current lab.
The Miller Group will serve as the developer and design-build contractor for the project.
The Virginia Beach facility is expected to be completed by fall 2018.
