VIRGINIA BEACH — The Virginia School Boards Association and Go Green Virginia hold an annual competition to encourage school divisions to reduce their carbon emissions by adopting environmentally friendly policies. Each year, schools districts earn points to certify them as a green school division, and this year, Virginia Beach City Public Schools has received recognition in the top tier.
VBCPS earned certification as a green school division with placement in the platinum category. Certification is based on the number of points earned from a variety of implemented practices such as energy efficiency, construction of green buildings, and the adoption of school environmental programs.
VBCPS is also recognized as a 2017 Energy Star Partner and certified by the United States Green Building Council, while the divisions recycling efforts have made a significant and positive impact on our community by saving trees, reducing waste, and conserving our natural resources.
