NORFOLK — Norfolk lost its “country boy” this week with the death of architectural preservationist Alvin Jones Jr.
Jones, the owner of Country Boy Antiques, died in his sleep earlier this week, according to a Facebook post on the business’ page.
“Dear friends, it is with great sorrow I have to announce that our sweet buddy, best friend, confidant, salvage & junkman extraordinaire has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully,” the post reads.
Located at 3818 Granby St., the industrial furniture and architectural salvage shop is a stone’s throw from other Riverview staples like the Village Mermaid and the French Bakery and Delicatessen.
The shop, which was gathering flowers and condolence cards at its front door on Friday morning, will be closed until further notice.
On Friday afternoon, a green door outside the shop was adorned with a banner that said: “Country 1969 — 2017 We love you!”
Friends and customers also left messages on the door in permanent markers. One read, “Until we meet again.” Another said, “Thank you for being a friend for people without one.”
Southside Daily has made contact with Jones’ loved ones and will update this story at a later date.
