Police believe a Sept. 17 shooting on Mooretown Road that left a man dead and a woman injured was a suicide, according to court documents.

Police filed a search warrant Sept. 20 revealing new details about the shooting, which occurred near the intersection of Ewell Road and Mooretown Road.

The search warrant was filed to collect DNA evidence, any firearm components and cell phones from the vehicle, which is owned by the woman, the warrant states.

The search warrant states Raheem Antonio King, 33, was traveling in a vehicle with a woman when he became upset, the warrant states.

He shot her in the leg then shot himself, the warrant states.

A “passerby” found the woman lying beside her vehicle around 8:44 a.m., documents state. The woman was hospitalized.

The vehicle was taken to the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office impound lot.

The sheriff’s office initially reported the incident was “not a homicide,” but did not say it was a suicide. Mooretown Road was also shut down for several hours in the area of the Ewell Industrial Park while investigators worked the scene.

“The public was not in any danger,” said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward. “We believe it was an isolated incident.”
