Seventy-six William & Mary buildings lost power Friday morning for an unknown reason, according to college officials.

The power outage was in the “Adair Loop” power circuit, ranging from Adair Hall toward the Kaplan Arena, through the fraternity area and to Zable Stadium, William & Mary spokeswoman Suzanne Seurattan said.

Power returned to campus around 10 a.m. after being out for about an hour, but the cause of the outage is not yet known, Seurattan said.

At 9:36 a.m., the William & Mary Libraries Twitter profile tweeted about the outage, stating the Earl Gregg Swem Library was without regular power and had limited backup power.

The account tweeted again at 11:15, stating the power had returned to the library.

Seurattan also said she had not heard of any “normal business” being interrupted by the outage.

A Dominion Energy map showed no outages at the college just before 10 a.m. A Dominion spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
