A plan to buy a couch from a neighbor ended with a robbery for one James City County man.

Police believe Justin Cloyd Smith, 35, sold his neighbor a sofa and later forcibly held the man and took his wallet.

The alleged robbery occurred in the 100 block of Blow Flats Road in James City County on Aug. 29, according to James City County Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

The victim purchased a couch from Smith earlier in the month. Smith later contacted the man to see if he could check the couch for a set of keys, Williams said.

Upon arriving, Smith allegedly grabbed the man from behind and took his wallet before fleeing on foot, Williams said.

Smith’s last known address is also on Blow Flats Road, Williams said.

The victim was uninjured and no weapons were used in the alleged robbery, Williams said.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Smith, but he had not yet been taken into custody as of Thursday afternoon.

Those with any information are asked to call the James City County Crime Line at 1-888-562-5887.
