VIRGINIA BEACH – The 7th Annual Virginia Beach Fallen Heroes Freedomfest is coming to Camp Pendleton on Sept. 9.
The inaugural event was held to memorialize soldiers who lost their lives when a Chinook helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan on Aug. 6, 2011. According to a news release, 31 members of the U.S. military lost their lives as a result. Many of those killed were Virginia Beach-based SEALS, the statement said.
For this year’s event, the only Navy SEAL capabilities demonstration – including an assault demo and tactical enemy apprehension – will headline the fest. The event will also showcase live music and a firearms auction.
Proceeds from the 2017 and previous events have raised more than $500,000 for the National Navy UDT/SEAL Museum, The UDT-SEAL Association, The Navy SEAL Foundation and Spikes K-9 Fund.
Gates open at noon and close at 6 p.m. Tickets and more information about the festival can be found online.
