Virginia Beach team sent to Texas for Hurricane Harvey search and rescue efforts

VIRGINIA BEACH — A Virginia Beach-based search and rescue team has been deployed to Texas to help in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey’s landfall.

The Virginia Task Force 2 Urban Search and Rescue Team sent 18 members to an undisclosed location in Texas to do water rescue and incident support, according to the organization’s website.

The city of Virginia Beach announced on Sunday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had called on the task force to help first responders in Texas. The team left on Sunday night.

They have also participated in search and rescue efforts during Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Joaquin, according to the city’s news release.
