VIRGINIA BEACH — A Virginia Beach man will spend three years in prison for killing a cat in 2016.

Allen Curtiss Kinzey, 22, pleaded guilty to killing the cat in the garage of a home located in the 1600 block of Cutty Sark Road.

On Wednesday, he was sentenced to five years in prison with two years suspended.

Officials say that a family member caught Kinzey choking the cat on Oct. 26, 2016. The family member reported that the cat had blood coming out of its mouth, according to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

The family member intended to take the cat to the veterinarian, but when she came back into the garage the cat was gone. Later, city animal control officers discovered the cat dead in a trash can, officials said.

The cat’s body was examined, and officials determined it died from being hit in the head several times.
