VIRGINIA BEACH — Police say a 39-year-old man was armed when he kicked in the door of a woman’s home and searched for her while her 11-year-old son was inside.

Charles Anthony Hursey, of the 7000 block of Hampton Boulevard, is charged with burglary with the intent to kill, rape or rob; using a gun in the commission of a felony; threatening a person via electronic means and other charges.

Police say Hursey was texting the woman in the early hours of July 10 before he kicked in the door of her Virginia Beach home. He was angry with her for being out and thought she was with another man, according to documents filed in Norfolk Circuit Court.

The man told the woman he was on the way to her Westerwald Place home and was going to kick in her door and kill her, court documents state.

The woman’s 11-year-old son was home when an armed Hursey kicked in the door. The child watched as Hursey searched the home looking for the woman. He called his mother and told her what was happening, according to court documents.

The woman called 911 and met police at the home, but Hursey was no longer there. Police looked at texts Hursey sent the woman from midnight until 3 a.m. and tracked his cell phone back to his Norfolk home.

Hursey was arrested that morning. During a July 11 search of his home, police found two guns, drug paraphernalia, a “green leafy substance” and “white powder substance,” court documents state.
