JAMES CITY COUNTY一 James City County police will visit nine neighborhoods Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. as part of this year’s National Night Out.
The annual event brings together law enforcement agencies and communities across the country with the goal of strengthening neighborhood relationships and promoting safer communities.
James City County officers will visit several neighborhoods during the event, including Chickahominy Haven, Chickahominy Road, Fenwick Hills, Great Woods, Lafayette Village, Landfall at Jamestown, Rolling Meadows, The Pointe at Jamestown and James River Elementary School.
Organizers said the department will focus on a smaller route this year to allow officers to spend more time at each location. The county will also have one main stop in the lower part of the county to accommodate activities planned by other agencies and businesses.
National Night Out was created by Matt Peskin, founder of the National Association of Town Watch. The first National Night Out was held Aug. 7, 1984, with an estimated 2.5 million people participating in 400 communities across 23 states.
