VIRGINIA BEACH — A former Rose & Womble Realty Company manager will spend about three years in prison for stealing more than $255,00 from the company, officials say.
On Thursday, Lindsay Kneff, 37, was sentenced to 37 months in prison in the Eastern District Court of Virginia for embezzling $255,147.20 from the realty company while she was a manager in the Virginia Beach office. The ruling came nearly six months after she pleaded guilty to wire fraud and engaging in a monetary transaction in criminally derived property on Jan. 17, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Kneff oversaw the processing of commissions and payable accounts between January 2014 and August 2015. During that time, she wrote checks and forged about 284 Rose & Womble money orders to cover her personal expenses. Those expenses included her electricity and utility bills, according to the DOJ.
She tried to hide the theft by creating fake companies in the Rose & Womble accounting software, according to the DOJ.
She will have to pay full restitution on top of her prison sentence.
