NORFOLK — A mortgage company with hundreds of branches across 47 states opened the doors of its new operations center for 750 employees at Military Circle.

Movement Mortgage welcomed Gov. Terry McAuliffe, Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander and other city officials to a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday.

“Movement Mortgage has built a strong track record in the Commonwealth since 2008, so it was a high priority to help the company stay in Virginia and grow its operations,” McAuliffe said.

Movement Mortgage is investing $3.1 million in the new office and is leasing the space from the city. A partnership between the Commonwealth and Norfolk assisted in site redevelopment, job training and investments.

The move relocates 550 jobs from Movement’s former operations center in Virginia Beach and will add 200 additional jobs over the next three years.

“Norfolk is blessed to have Movement Mortgage as a partner and a new addition to our business community,” Alexander said.

McAuliffe approved a $600,000 grant in order to secure the project. The renovations resulted in 93,000 square feet of space, a fitness center, prayer room and employee cafe.

Movement, founded in 2008 with offices in Virginia Beach and Charlotte, N.C., has its largest customer base in Virginia. The company says it is on its way to becoming one of the 10 largest purchase mortgage lenders in the country.

“We are so excited to be expanding in the state where it all began and one that means so much to our company,” Movement Mortgage CEO Casey Crawford said.
