UPDATE 8 a.m. Thursday:

Police have found a man accused of abducting and assaulting a woman last week.

Richard Alvin Massengill was arrested Wednesday on Scott Road in Pasquotank County, N.C., according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s spokeswoman Shelley Ward.

He is pending extradition back to Virginia, Ward said.

Original story:

Police are seeking a man believed to be armed and dangerous man who allegedly abducted and assaulted a woman early Thursday morning.

Investigators have obtained warrants charging Richard Alvin Massengill with several counts of abduction, strangulation and several counts of assault & battery, according to a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office news release.

Police received a 911 call around 8 a.m. Thursday morning for a reported assault on a woman at a York County home, sheriff’s office spokesman Lt. Dennis Ivey said. The call was made by a third party, not the victim or Massengill, he added.

Police arrived and found the victim at the home, but Massengill who allegedly assaulted her, was no longer there, Ivey said.

Authorities have been unable to locate him since the 911 call was made.

Massengill is considered armed and dangerous, the release said, and is known to frequent Newport News, Hampton, York and James City County.

Massengill’s last known address is in the 400 block of Wolf Trap Road, York County.

Police are cautioning people not to approach Massengill if he is located and are advising they call 911 instead.

He is described as a white male with brown eyes and brown hair. He is about 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 pounds.

Persons with any information leading to Massengill’s arrest are asked to contact the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office at 757-890-4999, or Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
