Teenagers charged in Virginia Beach shooting spree to appear in court in March

VIRGINIA BEACH — Two teenagers charged with murder in connection to a 2016 shooting spree across Virginia Beach are scheduled to appear in court in March.

The shootings include Nov. 29 on Skylard Drive, Nov. 30 on Old Clubhouse Road, Dec. 2 on Hawk Road, Dec. 4 on Campion Court, Dec. 7 on Dunnbury Court and Dec. 7 on Old Clubhouse Road.

The Hawk Road and Campion Court shootings resulted in deaths of victims, according to a release from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The teenagers, both 17 at the time of the crimes, were arrested on Dec. 10. Both are charged with first-degree murder and a number of other charges associated with the shootings.

The juveniles are scheduled for detention reviews on March 2. At that time, a Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court judge will decide if they should remain in custody.

On March 28, the teenagers will appear back in court for a certification hearing in which a judge will decide if there is sufficient evidence against them to certify the case to a grand jury.

If the case is certified by a grand jury, the juveniles will be charged as adults.  According to the Virginia Department of Education, a juvenile will automatically be tried as an adult if they are over the age of 14 and are charged with murder.

A map provided by the Virginia Beach Police Department shows the locations of shootings that happened between Nov. 29 and Dec. 7. Two 17-year-olds are charged with the shootings, two of which resulted in the death of victims.
