Virginia Beach man gets 41 months for stealing over $1 million from labor union

A Virginia Beach man will spend more than three years in prison for stealing over $1 million from International Longshoremen’s Association Local 970.

Robert Smith III, 49, was sentenced to 41 months in prison and three years of supervised release on Thursday. He will also have to pay the union $1,072,669.10 in restitution, according to a Department of Justice release.
