A Virginia Beach man will spend 10 years in prison for receiving images of child pornography online.
Brandon Matthew Florin, 34, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and a lifetime of supervision on Thursday in the Eastern District Court of Virginia, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The sentencing came after Florin pleaded guilty on Sept. 20 to one of seven charges involving more than 5,000 images of child pornography on his computer and other digital devices, according to documents filed in the Eastern District Court of Virginia.
Documents show that Florin was arrested on July 21, 2016, nearly six months after he received a video of a partially nude girl who was about 8 or 9 years old.
Police searched Florin’s home on April 6, 2016, finding hundreds of pornographic images and videos of minors, including prepubescent minors. At least one of the videos showed a child engaged in sadistic or masochistic activity, court documents state.
On the same day as the search, Florin was questioned by police and admitted to searching for child pornography on the internet and using peer-sharing software.
The Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia Beach Police Department worked together to identify Florin. The case was solved as part of Project Safe Childhood, which is a nationwide program that helps protect kids from exploitation and abuse.
