Educational sessions focused on rebuilding familial relationships after substance abuse struggles are returning to Virginia Beach. A program called “Celebrating Families!” will help families to focus on maintaining healthy lifestyles free of drugs and alcohol.
Organized by the Virginia Beach Human Services Department’s Behavioral Health and Wellness Prevention Services Unit, the classes are free and will start on Tuesday, Feb. 7, and meet every Tuesday for 13 weeks. The classes will be given at the Renaissance Academy located at 5100 Cleveland Road from 6-8 p.m. Attendees will also be treated to a family dinner.
During the sessions, families will participate in a 90-minute instructional session with each class dedicated to a theme, with a 30-minute conversation afterward to discuss what they learned.
Themes for the classes will include “healthy eating, communications, anger management, problem-solving skills, facts about alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, the effects of chemical dependency on the family, healthy relationships and goal setting.”
