Norfolk is hosting a tribute to a classic confection Thursday evening with free s’mores.
In honor of Toasted Marshmallow Day, which falls on Aug. 30, there will be make-your-own s’mores at East Ocean View Community Center, 9520 E. 20th Bay St., from 7-8:30 p.m. Amber Rauch, one of the City’s two new park rangers, will provide lessons in fire building and fire safety. There will also be campfire stories, according to a notice on the City’s website.
“It’s one of those fun food holidays,” said Holly Christopher, division head for public information at Recreation, Parks & Open Space.
RPOS hired two park rangers earlier this year, and is in the process of ramping up its programs, according to Christopher. Offerings slated for the fall include: a nuisance wildlife-prevention class for adults, which meets for the first time on Sept. 16; a shoreline cleanup day on Sept. 17; and a nature program for toddlers, starting in October.
The s’mores event is open to the public, but registration is required. Call 757-441-5834.
