A research biologist with the College of William & Mary is accused of possessing child pornography, officials said.
William & Mary Police arrested Michael D. Wilson, 46, of Richmond on Friday afternoon, said Suzanne Seurratan, a spokeswoman with the college. He is charged with four felony counts of possession of child pornography and is being held at Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
Wilson has been employed at William & Mary since 2004 and most recently worked at the Center for Conservation Biology. He received his master’s degree in biology from the college in 2003.
While the college cannot comment on Wilson’s case specifically, Seurratan said college protocol in these types of cases is to place an employee on administrative leave and prohibit that person from being on campus.
