Kristen Nelson will retain her role as York County Circuit Court Clerk, defeating challenger Stacy White in the general election, according to unofficial election results.
Vote totals from the Virginia Department of Elections show Nelson leads the ballot count with 8,620 votes, or 70.58 percent. White has earned 3,565 votes, or 29.19 percent.
Nelson, who has worked in the clerk’s office for 18 years, has served as the acting court clerk since last August, when Lynn Mendibur retired.
All election results are considered unofficial until a formal results review, which begins tomorrow, is completed and all provisional ballots are counted.
