A woman who has worked in York County government for 23 years hopes to stay for another four years.
Ann H. Thomas announced her candidacy for Commissioner of the Revenue on Friday in a news release, noting she has been successful in technologically advancing the office during her five terms in office.
Thomas is credited with bringing many of the county’s services — including renewing and applying for business licenses and submitting excises taxes — online and digitally imaging official tax records, reports and correspondence.
“I have concentrated my goals on being available to taxpayers,” she said, adding she seeks to “improve and ensure accuracy, efficiency and that all individuals and businesses are treated fairly and uniformly.”
The Commissioner of the Revenue is responsible for working with the taxpayers and for keeping a continuing record of the county’s revenue.
Thomas is certified as a Master Commissioner of Revenue by the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and by the Commissioner of the Revenue Association of Virginia.
In addition, she is a member of the Education and Training Committee for the Commissioner of the Revenue Association of Virginia, the Virginia Association of Assessing Officers, the Virginia Association of Local Elected Officials and the Virginia Association of Local Tax Auditors.
York County citizens will cast their votes for Commissioner of the Revenue on Nov. 3.
