A man who deputies believe helped plan the attempted robbery that led to the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Dylan Peters has been arrested.
Tevin DeSean Lambert, a 20-year-old Newport News resident, is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
With the assistance of the Newport News Police Department, investigators with the York-Poquoson Sherriff’s Office arrested Lambert around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday at his home on the 800 block of Chatsworth Drive.
He is being held without bail at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. April 16 in York Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
On Jan. 27, Peters was killed at his home during what YPSO Sheriff J.D. “Danny” Diggs called a “drug deal gone bad.” Deputies believe a 17-year-old boy came to Peters’ home on the 200 block of Cattail Lane in Tabb to rob him of drugs and money.
Peters talked with the 17-year-old on his front porch for a short time before retreating back inside and attempting to close the door, when the suspect shot five bullets into the door with a .40 caliber handgun. All five shots went through the door and hit Peters, who had wounds to his chest, shoulder, leg and hand, Diggs said.
The alleged shooter then ran away. Deputies arrested the 17-year-old suspect Jan. 28 when he came to the Sheriff’s Office with his parents to voluntarily speak with investigators.
