Heavy smoke and fire has left a Yorktown home “uninhabitable.”

York County Fire and Life Safety received a call shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday to the home in the 400 block of Goosley Road.

Units arrived moments later to find heavy smoke coming from the single-story home and heavy fire in the attic.

It took about 25 minutes to extinguish the fire, Assistant Chief Paul Long said.

While crews were working to put out the fire, a dog bit a firefighter but did not penetrate through the protective clothing. Long said the dog was quickly secured by its owner.

The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.

Cost estimations for the damage to the home are unavailable, but Long said the house is now “uninhabitable.”

The American Red Cross is assisting the family displaced by the fire.
