Two local law enforcement entities are teaming up Tuesday to take part in a drill to help Navy Emergency personnel be better prepared for an “active shooter” scenario.
Citizens should expect increased security activity and traffic around the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station, as well as simulated gunfire, sirens and alert notifications as the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office and the Newport News Police Department work with the U.S. Navy on the joint exercise.
The exercise is part of Navy-wide force protection exercise Solid Curtain-Citadel Shield 2015. The exercise is being conducted on naval installations around the U.S. from Tuesday until Feb. 13.
“The exercise will test response and coordination between Navy emergency response personnel and their civilian counterparts in an ‘active shooter’ situation,” a news release on YPSO’s Facebook page states.
