The 13th annual “Shop With a Sheriff” is scheduled for Dec. 6, when Christmas comes early for 50 to 60 children who will get a chance to go shopping with deputies.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for donations that will allow children from York County and the city of Poquoson to go Christmas shopping with deputies at the Tabb Kmart.

The participating children are chosen with the help of local churches and schools.

“We’re just trying to raise as much as possible,” said YPSO Lt. Dennis Ivey, adding there is no monetary goal this year.

This year, YPSO is using the help of GoFundMe, a website that allows people to raise funds online. Although most of the money the Sheriff’s Office receives comes in the forms of mailed checks, Ivey said several people wished they could pay with a credit card.

“We just wanted to give people another opportunity to donate,” Ivey said.

YPSO will be accepting donations until Dec. 6. Those wishing to contribute can pay by credit card on GoFundMe. Checks can be made payable to “Shop with a Sheriff” and mailed to YPSO at P.O Box 99, Yorktown, VA 23690.

Anyone wishing to contribute or receive information about Shop with a Sheriff can contact the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office at 757-890-3679.
