The College of William & Mary’s Raymond A. Mason School of Business will open a center for students pursuing careers in finance thanks to a gift from a married alumni couple.

The college announced Nov. 13 alumni Todd and Katie Boehly had made a leadership commitment for the creation of the Boehly Center for Excellence in Finance. The center will provide experiential learning opportunities for finance students at the business school.

The college has not announced the size of the gift, but the college has been working with the Boehlys since January, when the center’s first programs were offered.

The center currently sponsors workshops and training in finance, guest lectures, study abroad trips, student participation in conferences and opportunities for networking. It also offers courses, ranging from a one-credit course in hedge fund management weekend class to a semester-long class featuring cases taught by alumni.

“The Boehly Center is at the cutting edge of where I think management education is headed, which is bringing companies, industry leaders, alumni and faculty together to think about what it really takes to make our students truly career ready and to connect them to world class opportunities,” business school Dean Larry Pulley said in a news release.

Todd Boehly, a 1996 William & Mary graduate, is the president of Guggenheim Partners, an investment services company that he joined in 2001. He has also worked at Whitney & Co. and Credit Suisse First Boston. Katie Boehly is a 1995 graduate of the college.

“When I arrived on campus in 1991, I thought I was going to be a doctor or philosopher — then I stumbled into finance,” Todd Boehly said in the release. “What finance has done for me has been nothing short of spectacular and I’d really love to share the opportunity, the education and knowledge base with current students.”
