Original Post: A Jamestown-Scotland Ferry boat has been sidelined for repairs through at least midday Monday.
The “Williamsburg,” a boat carrying up to 50 vehicles, has been replaced in the rotation by the “Virginia,” which can carry up to 28 vehicles. Because of the lesser capacity of the “Virginia,” the Virginia Department of Transportation, which operates the ferry, has warned motorists there could be longer wait times until the “Williamsburg” is back in service, according to a VDOT news release.
VDOT has a fleet of four boats for the ferry, which connects Jamestown Road in James City County with the Rolfe Highway in Surry County. The “Virginia” is typically used only when one of the other three boats— which can all carry at least 50 vehicles — has been sent for repairs or maintenance.
