A district court judge granted the defense’s request for competency and sanity evaluations for a woman accused of embezzling $5,000 from This Century Art Gallery.
Candace Buck, a 32-year-old former employee of the Williamsburg art gallery, turned herself in Sept. 9 after a nearly 60-day police investigation on an embezzlement complaint.
The manager of the art gallery reported to police in July she suspected a former employee of embezzling money from the company between November 2013 and June 2014.
Buck, a Williamsburg mother of five who currently resides with her boyfriend, is suspected to have acted alone, Maj. Greg Riley with the Williamsburg Police Department said.
Buck was released from Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on a $2,000 bond, according to court records. She is charged with nine felony counts of forgery, nine felony counts of uttering and one felony count of embezzlement.
She will appear in Williamsburg-James City County District Court at 8 a.m. Dec. 11 for the judge to hear results of her competency and insanity evaluations.
