Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe appointed one new member and reappointed two others to the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation Board of Trustees.
Nancy Robertson McNerney of McLean is a new appointment to the board, while Paul D. Koonce of Richmond and Fred D. Thompson Jr. of Ashburn return for another term.
The appointments are effective immediately and run through Jun 30, 2018.
McNerney, a friend of McAuliffe’s, said the governor first approached her in August about serving on the board.
“I was very honored he thought of me and thought that it was something I could do,” McNerney said.
McNerney is co-founder of Baba’s Pickles, a small batch artisanal pickle company based out of Washington, D.C. She is a graduate of East Carolina University, and worked as an accounts receivable manager before becoming a stay-at-home mother.
The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation oversees the operation of Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center.
The board is a state agency, consisting of members of the General Assembly and other state officials, as well as gubernatorial appointees and board-appointed members.
Members provide advice and counsel to Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation staff members, and serve as a governing board for the foundation.
Although she has little experience with historic preservation organizations, McNerney said she supported the foundation’s mission.
“I’m Virginia born-and-raised,” she said. “I’m for anything that preserves the history and traditions we have.”
Both Koonce and Thompson were first appointed to the board in 2010, and are set to begin their second terms this year.
Koonce is the chief executive officer of Dominion Resources’ Energy Infrastructure Group, which covers Dominion Virginia Power and Dominion Energy. He graduated with a business degree from the University of Tennessee, and has also served on board of directors for the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation and the board of trustees of Virginia Union University.
Thompson is the chief administrative officer of Thompson hospitality, one of the country’s largest minority-owned food companies. He is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and received a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Virginia. He previously served as small and minority business opportunities coordinator for the City of Newport News.
