Logo Selected for Williamsburg’s Annual Christmas Parade

image003When the streets of Williamsburg swell with parade-goers in early December, the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance hopes the experience is part of a season good enough to fill the pages of a story book.

The Alliance, which has selected “A Story Book Christmas” as this year’s parade theme, picked a logo submitted by Proximo Marketing Strategies’ Will Melton to brand the parade.

“We really like the simplicity [of Melton’s logo],” said Naomi Flythe, a service representative for the Alliance. “It was just what we needed. It’s a perfect fit.”

Melton described his logo as “simple, yet representative of the theme of the parade, is pleasing to the eye, and will provide a cohesive brand for this year’s parade,” in an Alliance news release announcing the selection of his logo.

The logo will be used on all materials associated with the parade, including presentation materials, flyers and signage. It will also be used online and on the apparel of the 125 parade marshals and volunteers, who will be adorned in striped scarves containing the logo along with the presenting sponsor of the parade and the Alliance’s logo.

The parade, which has run for decades, lines up on Duke of Gloucester Street and then goes down Richmond Road before turning on Brooks Street and ending at William & Mary Hall. Last year’s parade, which attracted about 2,500 people, fell on a rainy day. The 2012 parade featured better weather conditions and attracted 8,000 people.

Flythe said a few spots remain for people interested in participating in the parade. Anyone who is interested should call 229-6511 to sign up for a Sept. 5 meeting at the Alliance building at 421 N. Boundary St., where rules and guidelines will be discussed.

The parade starts at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 6.
