The James City County Police Department is investigating after items were reported stolen from eight vehicles in Toano between Aug. 12 and Aug. 16.
Deputy Chief Steve Rubino of the James City County police said of those eight, two thefts are more than likely not related. A blower, a chainsaw and chainsaw chaps were taken from one locked car on with no signs of entry, and a backpack containing an iPod touch, assorted CDs and other items valued at $500 were taken from a car that was unlocked.
The thefts are still under investigation, Rubino said, and the other six thefts are possibly related. In some cases, nothing was taken; in others, change or wallets were taken.
The thefts occurred in the Toano neighborhoods of Great Woods, Wellington and Fenwick Hills. One theft on Barhamsville Road and one on Richmond Road also occurred within the same time frame, but are likely unrelated to the other Toano thefts.
James City County police are still investigating the 14 vehicle thefts that occurred at Scott’s Pond Aug. 6 and 7. Rubino said investigators are processing evidence and seeking leads.
Wallets, cell phones and electronics were taken from the vehicles at Scott’s Pond. The vehicles were all unlocked.
It is unclear whether the Scott’s Pond incidents are related to the reports from Toano, Rubino said.
