York Deputies Identify Man Who Died in Friday House Fire

 

york county fireThe York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who died in Friday’s fire at a house on Allens Mill Road as 38-year-old William Bender.

The fire caused significant damage to a two-story home, rendering it uninhabitable. The fire was caused by an electrical problem inside the home, according to Assistant Chief Paul Long with the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety.

Reports of the fire began to come in around 8 p.m. Friday, prompting the dispatch of units to the scene. When they arrived, they found a two-story home “heavily involved in fire,” Long said.

Firefighters entered the home to fight the fire and conduct search and rescue, finding Bender’s body inside. No other people or pets were in the home.

The fire was brought under control within about 15 minutes. Units remained on scene until around midnight.
