Original Post: Traffic is closed in both directions on Interstate 64 near Camp Peary (exit 238) due to a single-vehicle crash, with Virginia Department of Transportation officials warning motorists to expect major delays.
The call reporting the overturned vehicle at mile marker 239 near Queens Creek came in at 1:31 p.m., according to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police. A helicopter was called in to transport at least one person to the hospital.
Westbound traffic is being detoured to Route 199 near Water Country USA (Exit 242), while eastbound traffic is funneling off the road at exit 238. The westbound lanes are not backed up.
VDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Gwaltney said there is not yet a timetable for reopening either set of lanes. The backup on I-64 East currently stretches west of the other Route 199 interchange (Exit 234).
