A longtime deputy clerk will fill the vacant clerk of Circuit Court position for York County and Poquoson until the 2015 election.
Kristen Nelson, who has served as a deputy clerk since 1996, is taking over the clerk position on an interim basis. The clerk of the Circuit Court is the “custodian of the court records,” according to the York County website. The position is elected for eight-year terms.
Lynn Mendibur, who started her first term in 2000, resigned earlier this month. She stepped down before her second term expired.
Voters will next cast ballots for the clerk of Circuit Court in November 2015.
