A sewer project necessitating the closure of Yorktown Road between Calthrop Neck Road and Tabb High School during the daytime hours has taken longer than necessary due to poor weather and conflicts with existing utilities.
The road, which has been closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. since March 17 to accommodate the project, was supposed to be open again by June 1. The problems have pushed that date to at least Aug. 15, with work likely to be finished no later than Aug. 20, said Brian Woodward, chief of utilities for York County.
The delayed work has not increased the project’s $800,000 price tag, Woodward said. The project is designed to extend sewer service to about 30 homes currently served by septic systems. The majority of the project is being installed under Yorktown Road.
Woodward said milling equipment is scheduled to be on site today. Paving should begin next week. Residents have always had access to their homes as work was underway, and that will continue to be the case during milling and paving operations.
