A Maryland woman accused of keeping a mobile meth lab in her vehicle will face a grand jury in August after waiving her preliminary hearing Tuesday.
Virginia State Police arrested 39-year-old Christie Ann Smith of Friendsville, Md., during a traffic stop in April after a state trooper found a mobile meth lab in a compartment in her vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police said that around 8:30 p.m. April 8 a state trooper saw the car driving erratically on Interstate 64 East near mile marker 234, where Route 199 intersects with the interstate near Great Wolf Lodge.
Anaya said the trooper stopped the vehicle and found the lab inside, then called the York County Division of Fire and Life Safety’s hazmat team to report to the scene.
One lane and a shoulder of I-64 East remained closed around the area of the incident for several hours.
Smith is charged with one felony count of manufacturing a controlled substance. Two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor count of giving false identity to a law enforcement officer and one misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated were dropped during the waiving of the preliminary hearing.
She is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond.
