Police: JCC Man Breaks Into Williamsburg House, Apologizes to Woman Inside

Williamsburg, VA 23185

williamsburg police patchA 55-year-old James City County man is in jail after police say he broke into a house on Scotland Street on Tuesday night.

Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department said officers responded to the 700 block of Scotland Street at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday for a reported break-in. When they arrived, a 21-year-old woman told police she was sitting in her bedroom when a man came in, said he was looking for a friend, apologized and then left the house.

She described the man as a black male wearing all black clothing. Officers on patrol in the area found a man matching that description near the intersection of Prince George and Scotland streets, where they detained him for a short period of time until the woman was able to positively identify Blaine Eric Bowman as the man who broke in, Riley said.

Riley said Bowman is believed to have entered the house through a door and that there were no signs of forced entry. Nothing was taken and nobody was hurt.

Bowman was arrested and taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. He is charged with one felony count of breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony.
