A 21-year-old man was arrested July 18 in connection with the theft of $2,100 worth of clothing from Polo Ralph Lauren in Williamsburg Premium Outlets on Richmond Road, police said.
Roman Jevonte Celestand is accused of stealing the clothing June 30 with the help of two other 21-year-old men, all from Norfolk.
A James City County Police report alleges Celestand and the other men used a “Grip Snip,” or wire cutters, to cut sensors off clothing then stuffed the clothes into shopping bags before walking out of the store, Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said.
Rubino said witnesses observed the men getting into a rented vehicle described as a silver Hyundai, which police discovered had been rented from Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Investigators were able to track the car using the license plate description provided by the witnesses.
Celestand is charged with one felony count of grand larceny, one felony count of conspiracy to commit larceny and one felony count of possession of burglary tools. Rubino said the two other men have not been arrested yet.
Another instance of shoplifting occurred at the same store in February, when four men were suspected of stealing thousands of dollars of clothing from Polo Ralph Lauren and Belk.
