Train Strikes, Kills Man on Williamsburg Tracks

Update 2:55 p.m.:

Virginia State Police have identified the victim as 42-year-old Raymond Lee Galownia and notified his family.

Galownia’s last known address was in Williamsburg, according to a news release.

The investigation is ongoing.

At about 1:15 a.m., crew members operating a CSX train carrying 100 empty coal cars to Richmond saw the person lying motionless on the train tracks. They attempted to signal the person and to stop the train, but they were unable to avoid hitting him, according to a news release from Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police.

The unidentified Caucasian man died at the scene. No identification was found on him. VSP is working with CSX, Railroad Police and the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond to identify the man.
